QUESTION:
I'm seriously looking into studying Oriental Medicine here
in Austin Texas at Academy of Oriental Medicine at Austin. I was
wondering if anyone knows if that is a good school or not?
I've read some stuff on the ChristianAcupuncture.com website.
I like it
alot. It's a great resource. I find it very unfortunate that so
many
Christians are so stupid! Jesus says it himself in the parable
of the
unrighteous steward... the people of the world are so often just
more
intelligent and shrewd than Christians. It's a sad fact of life.
I've
seen it over an over and over again.
I've read a few articles and they have been quite helpful. So
let me get
this right... everything in CM can be interpreted in a completely
physical/mental way? Am I going to run into situations in class
where
people are going to be doing some kinda weird yoga meditation?
And if I
will... how will I know when it switches from physical/mental
to
spiritual? What kinda mindset do I need to take when I got to
class?
I want to apoligize in advance for asking these questions if
they are
already answered somewhere on your website. I've read about 7
articles
so far. It seams obvious to me that acupuncture is totaly physical...
but everytime I read the College cataloge it scares me! For example
the
class Qigong level 3 "Students will learn the Five Animal
Frolics
Qigong, a system of graceful dance-like exercises modeled after
the
crane, bear, deer, monkey and tiger practiced to develop strength,
grace, flexibility, balance, and an abundance of healing Qi."
How do I
distinguish between putting my body in a position for demon entrance
and
just dancing around like a chimp? I know I'm talking out of complete
ignorance so I'll shut up before I say anything that is too stupid.
:)
I consider myself all Christ's property. I don't want to in any
way
compromise that. The Bible doesn't say alot about stuff like this.
But
obviously false religions do have dances and things that bring
demons.
The Baal worship that Elijah encountered on Mt Carmel is a good
example
of something like that (although it really didn't work too well!)
And we
do know that it is farely easy for Christians who are unaware
to get
ensnared by Satan 2Tim 2:25-26.
Thank you for taking the time to read this!
In Christ,
Kurt
Those that love God desire to keep his commandments and walk
in
obedience to Him. Living in Christ for Christ with Christ empowered
by Christ is what it's all about. Christianity is about Him.
Answer:
Hi Kurt!
Can't comment on the Austin school...
"So let me get this right... everything in CM can be
interpreted in a
completely physical/mental way?"
Physical, mental, and emotional, yes. The truth is that much
of what is
being taught about CM outside of China is based on mistranslations.
E.g.
qi=air, not energy. jing luo=bigger and smaller blood vessels,
not
meridians or channels. The main problem has been that most of
the original
European translators were not medical people, so they made errors
that were amplified by new-age practitioners. I can't recommend
strongly enough
Donald Kendall's the Dao of Chinese Medicine, despite the title
(by which he means "the truth" about Chinese medicine).
"Am I going to run into situations in class where people
are going to be doing some kinda weird yoga meditation?"
Possibly. You don't have to participate in that. I'd make it
clear that
you're a Christian and can't participate in that, and you're there
to learn
medicine, not another religion. So far, the Christian students
I've talked
to at several schools have had positive responses to setting boundaries
like
that. Prayer is key, of course, and students like yourself are
laying the
groundwork for edging these peripheral religions out of what should
be a
medical education.
"And if I will... how will I know when it switches from
physical/mental to spiritual?"
You have the holy spirit, so you'll know. However, watch out
for
psychological defensiveness and fear. If you rememeber that Satan
is a
defeated enemy and you stay connnected to Jesus and your local
church, you should be fine.
"What kinda mindset do I need to take when I got to class?"
The mindset we have toward all non-believers. Love. :-) Think
about it
this way- you'll be entering a field ripe for harvest.
